Masonry Units

Masonry unit is a general term for brick and tile.

Two main categories used for corrosion resistance construction: those manufactured from clay and those manufactured from carbon

Clay masonry units are classified by their rate of absorption as determined by ASTM C279.

Carbon masonry units are described in ASTM C1160
   
Quarry Tile  
Typical dimensions: 6"x 6" x 1/2", 6" x 6" x 3/4", 8" x 4" x 1/2", 8" x 4" x 3/4"

Less than 1" thick

Smooth or optional abrasive slip resistant finish

Typical applications: Floors subjected to foot traffic and light forklift traffic; food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical and some chemical industries

Installation: Furnane Floor, Tilesetter's Method
   
Pavers / Dairy Brick  
Typical dimensions: 8" x 3-7/8" x 1-3/16", 8" x 3-7/8" x 1-3/8"

Smooth or optional abrasive slip resistant finish

Typical applications:
Floors subjected to foot traffic and medium forklift traffic; food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical and some chemical industries

Installation: Furnane Floor, Tilesetter's or Bricklayer's Method, or Industrial Floor
   
Vertical Fiber  
Typical dimensions: 8" x 4" x 1-3/16", 8"x 4" x 1-3/8", 8" x 4" x 1-1/2"

Textured, slip resistant finish

Typical applications: Floors subjected to foot traffic and medium forklift traffic; food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical and chemical industries

Installation: Furnane Floor, Bricklayer's Method, or Industrial Floor
   
Single & Double  
Typical dimensions: 8" x 3-3/4" x 2-1/4", 8" x 3-3/4" x 4-1/2"

Slight textured finish

Typical applications: Floors subjected to severe chemical and frequent physical abuse, containment dikes, sumps, trenches, tank and process vessel linings; chemical and industrial facilities

Installation: Industrial Floor
   
Fire Clay or Buff  
Typical dimensions: various shapes and sizes including straights, wedges and arches

Off-white / buff color, slight texture

Typical application: Process vessels
   
Carbon  
Typical dimensions: Shapes and sizes vary, including straights, wedges and arches

Black, slight texture

Typical applications: Environments and process vessels exposed to hydrofluoric, fluoride salts, and high concentrations of alkalies
